Champions League | Milan 1-3 Liverpool: Player Ratings

Start

Milan took an early lead against Liverpool, but a poor defensive performance saw them ultimately lose their opening Champions League match 3-1 to The Reds.

AC Milan

Maignan: A cursed night for the French goalkeeper. He immediately felt muscle discomfort that limited his movement, staying on his goal line for Liverpool’s first 2 goals. 5.5/10

Calabria: Caused the free kick that leads to Liverpool’s equalizer, a glaring error. Totally overwhelmed by Gakpo and Tsimikas’ attacks. 5.5/10

Tomori: Never gave the sense of being able to provide certainty to the defensive line. 5.5/10

Pavlovic: Always brings grit and determination, but in games like this much more is needed: primarily better ball control in possession. Needs to work hard to improve technically. 5.5/10

Theo Hernandez: Gave what he could with a degree of consistency and grit, especially in the second half. One of the better performers. 6.0/10

Fofana: Bad, very bad, both in build-up play and defensively. Not sharp after a peculiar summer where he trained separately for several weeks. 5.0/10

Loftus-Cheek: Very average and absent for large spells of the match, still adapting to a tweaked role on the pitch. At fault for Liverpools second goal. 4.5/10

Pulisic: The only one who gave  his all to change the course of a season that’s started terribly. Scored Milan’s opening goal in the 3rd minute. 6.5/10

Reijnders: The Dutchman simply failed to make an impact. 5.5/10

Rafa Leao: Some interesting flashes, unlucky to hit the post late on. Could have done more. 5.5/10

Morata: Started the game in high gear, providing a perfect assist for Pulisic, but quickly ran out of gas. 5.5/10
