New Format Explained
The 2024-25 season introduces a significant change to the Champions League format. Instead of the traditional group stage, there will be a single league phase with 36 teams. Each club will play eight matches against different opponents, four at home and four away. The top eight teams in the league table will automatically qualify for the knockout stages, while teams finishing 9th to 24th will compete in play-offs for the remaining spots in the round of 16.
