Ceferin: ‘Football is not for sale’

Start

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin says ‘football is not for sale’ following the ECJ’s ruling that UEFA acted against competition law by blocking the Super League. The landmark ruling could pave the way for clubs to participate in the new competition, which organizers A22 say will be ‘free’ to view for fans.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Ceferin responded to the ruling, saying that the new Super League format is worst than the version that was originally proposed in 2024:

“The most important thing is that football remains united, this is proven by the fact that all the main representatives of European football are present here.”

“Teams like Girona and Atalanta could not qualify in this championship. This format is more closed than that of 2021. To talk about open competition is wrong. Now it is clear that what we are being offered is a closed competition. Today we have had the confirmation of that.”

“We have never tried to stop the project. They can do whatever they want, I hope they start as soon as possible with two clubs. I hope they know what they are doing, but I am not sure.”

“Football is not for sale.”
