Former AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano has launched a scathing attack on the club’s owner Gerry Cardinale following the latter’s recent comments. Speaking on the Twitch program ‘Viva El Futbol’, Cassano didn’t mince his words as he criticized Cardinale’s approach to running the storied Italian club.
Cassano began by asserting the club’s importance and its connection to the fans: “First of all, Milan doesn’t belong to you, it belongs to the people. They need to explain this to you in America. Milan isn’t Sammartinese, it’s one of the most important teams in the world. Even in a bad year, Milan should be fighting to win something. You’re thinking: ‘I’ll make it worth 5 billion, 6 billion, 10 billion,’ for your own interests. No, dear Cardinale, and dear Furlani.”
The outspoken former player then emphasized the club’s significance and criticized Cardinale’s apparent distance from day-to-day operations: “Secondly, Milan belongs to the fans. Let’s remember that. And it’s not okay for you to be in America minding your own business, doing what you want, with the Boston Celtics, watching baseball and other things. Milan is a serious matter. Come and show your face, and let professionals work – not Furlani, who doesn’t know where to turn and doesn’t know Milan’s legends.”
Cassano concluded his tirade by questioning Cardinale’s competence: “Milan is history and status. The way you’re treating it and behaving, you’re proving that you’re incompetent.”
