Fabio Capello expressed doubts about Roberto De Zerbi’s candidacy for the Milan bench: ‘What has he won?’. The former Roma and Rossoneri coach was speaking with Sky Sport Italia (via CM.com) about the potential change of coaches in Milan, and shared his candid thoughts on De Zerbi?
“I would put De Zerbi in the third tier. There’s a lot of talk about him as one of the top coaches because Guardiola sponsors him, but this year he’s tenth or eleventh in the standings (with Brighton in the Premier League). What has he won in his career? Let’s look at his resume: he has only won one cup in Ukraine (the Super Cup with Shakhtar Donetsk in 2021).”
Last week, Capello had spoken similarly about De Zerbi in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport: “He’s a prepared coach, who asserts his ideas wherever he coaches and has a highly respected sponsor like Guardiola. Until now, however, no one has come forward despite his name being linked to the benches of big clubs. And then with Brighton, he has a 15 million clause: honestly, it seems too much to release a coach.”
