Renowned Italian football manager Fabio Capello has shared his insights on the upcoming crucial Serie A match between Inter Milan and Napoli. The former coach believes this game could be pivotal in the race for the Scudetto, with Antonio Conte making his return to San Siro.
Capello praised Simone Inzaghi’s decision to rest Alessandro Bastoni and Federico Dimarco in the midweek Champions League match against Arsenal. “Inzaghi was very wise,” Capello said. “He spared the left side of Inter from dealing with a tricky customer like Saka. That extra workload could have weighed on the pair ahead of the Napoli clash, but instead, Bastoni and Dimarco arrive fresh for tonight’s appointment.”
The tactical battle on the flanks is expected to be crucial. Capello highlighted the duel between Inter’s Dimarco and Napoli’s Giovanni Di Lorenzo as potentially decisive. “On paper, Inter has a slight advantage because they defend with five, and Dimarco is more protected compared to Di Lorenzo, who plays in a four-man defence and is therefore more exposed in one-on-one situations,” Capello explained.
Capello also emphasized the importance of key players like Hakan Calhanoglu for Inter and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for Napoli. “Calhanoglu is fundamental when it comes to making the team tick, while Kvara is the extra weapon on the left,” he stated.
The former manager pointed out the significance of set pieces in what he expects to be a tight contest. “On corners and free kicks, Inter has the means to strike,” Capello said. “Inzaghi knows he can count on excellent jumpers, great specialists like Calhanoglu and Dimarco, and men skilled at exploiting loose balls to finish from distance or make runs into the box, like Barella.”
