Candela: ‘I hope Mourinho stays with Roma’

Start

Legendary Roma fullback Vincent Candela hopes that the Friedkins decide to renew Jose Mourinho’s contract with the club. The Special One has a deal with the Giallorossi until June 2024, but no talks on a renewal have taken place as yet, as confirmed by Mourinho himself.

In a recent interview with Corriere della Sera, Candela explained why he would like the club to keep the Portuguese tactician in charge for a while longer:

“I have been waiting for Mou’s renewal since the beginning of the season, I hope the Friedkins surprise us soon and announce the renewal of Mourinho’s contract. Otherwise, the climate until the end of the season will be tense.”

“It would be a great signal for the fans, for the players and for the future of the club. It would be difficult to get to the end of the season with a coach whose contract is expiring. He likes being here, I think and hope that Dan Friedkin agrees to it.”

“Winning is important and Mourinho has demonstrated this throughout his career. However, I think that by playing well it is easier to win. There are some situations in which you can win even by playing ugly games, but when you’re at full strength it’s nice to win by playing well.”

“The left-back position? Spinazzola had some physical problems, I really like Zalewski who did well on the left. He should have continuity in the role because if he plays once in front, once at the back and once on the right it becomes difficult for a young boy.”
