Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu spoke at the Gran Galà del Calcio AIC, sharing his thoughts on various topics including his achievements in Italian football and the recent health scare involving Fiorentina’s Edoardo Bove.
Reflecting on his time with Inter, Calhanoglu expressed his pride in winning the Scudetto, stating, “Winning the Scudetto was the greatest joy. I am happy to be here receiving this award. However, what happened yesterday with Edoardo Bove was very difficult for us mentally. As everyone has said, we are with him; health comes before football. We dedicate this award to him.”
Looking ahead to the Champions League, he said, “We always want to win, but playing so many matches makes it difficult. We will try to win; we are all focused in the league. In the Champions League, we are doing very well and have a tough match coming up against Leverkusen. We want to reclaim the Scudetto.”
When asked about competition in Serie A, Calhanoglu noted, “Who do we fear most in Italy? Everyone. Atalanta, Milan, Juventus, Napoli—they have all strengthened their squads. But we only focus on ourselves.”
Calhanoglu also addressed his recent injury struggles: “I have had two injuries; this is the first time in my career experiencing this. The last one was longer than expected, and I haven’t fully recovered yet. But I am happy to be back.”
Expressing his ambitions for the future, he added, “We want to be protagonists. Right now, we are in a good position, but there is still a long way to go. I have won everything in Italy except for the Champions League; that is my dream. I hope to lift that trophy one day.”
