Tajon Buchanan, the Canadian winger who recently returned to action for Inter Milan after a severe injury, has shared his thoughts on his career and current situation in a candid interview. The young player, now back in the Canadian national team squad, reflected on his experiences and future goals.
On joining Inter Milan, Buchanan expressed his awe: “It was one of those ‘wow’ moments. I had to catch my breath when I entered the locker room filled with such strong players. I’ve always dreamed of this. Going from Brampton to playing for such a team is something special.”
Buchanan humorously admitted his struggles with learning Italian, saying, “I’m trying to learn Italian, but let’s say it’s a difficult process. I hope to improve. Many are helping me, obviously including Marcus Thuram, who speaks excellent English.”
Regarding his preferred position, Buchanan stated, “As a winger in a 4-3-3, that’s my natural role where I can try to make a difference. In the final third of the field.”
The player also touched on his relationship with national teammates: “We’re all very close in the national team, I personally am especially close to Davies and Jonathan David. When there’s this rapport, you see it on the field. We’ve shown it and want to improve in the coming months as a team.”
Buchanan didn’t shy away from discussing his recent injury: “It was a really difficult moment, everything happened very quickly. I remember looking at my leg and immediately realizing it was a serious injury. I had the support of the whole team, a lot of people wrote to me, and I’m grateful for that. Injuries are part of the game, unfortunately it happened, but now I’m back stronger than ever. I want to show who I really am as a player, take a step forward. I want to show personality, score goals, and make assists: in short, make a difference.”
Looking ahead to the World Cup, Buchanan shared his excitement: “It’s a dream, I don’t think you can really realize how big this thing is. I just wanted to show myself as a player and what team Canada is. The best memory? The assist to Alphonso (Davies) for the first goal in the World Cup.”
