Juventus defender Gleison Bremer has his eyes firmly set on adding to the club’s trophy cabinet as the Bianconeri prepare to face RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday evening. The Brazilian center-back, who has been a cornerstone of Thiago Motta’s rock-solid defense this season, spoke to German outlet Bild ahead of the crucial Group E clash.
“When you play for a club like Juventus, the objectives must always be the highest,” Bremer stated. “We’ve already won the Coppa Italia, but I want to win more trophies. However, we’re only at the beginning of our journey. There have been many changes, and we need time to assimilate all the new ideas.”
Juventus have made a remarkable start to their Serie A campaign, keeping clean sheets in all six of their opening matches – a new league record. This defensive solidity will be put to the test against a potent Leipzig attack that put four past Augsburg in their weekend Bundesliga fixture.
Bremer is well aware of the threat posed by the German side, particularly singling out Dutch starlet Xavi Simons for praise. “Leipzig has an overall strong team with a lot of Champions League experience,” he noted. “Xavi Simons is a very strong player, he showed it at the Euros with the Netherlands. He has fantastic technique, is very fast, and creates many scoring opportunities with his assists. It’s difficult to play against him.”
The 26-year-old defender also reflected on what has helped him establish himself as a key figure in Turin since his move from Torino in 2022. “Above all, my work ethic: I always try to achieve the maximum and try to be an example in the dressing room, first with actions on the field, then with words. I think it’s important for our young team.”
