Bove agrees to Internal defibrillator: Career in Italy ends, contract discussions with Roma loom

Start

Edoardo Bove, the young Fiorentina midfielder, has reluctantly consented to undergo surgery for an internal defibrillator implant, a decision that will effectively end his playing career in Italy. This development mirrors the situation faced by Christian Eriksen, who had to leave Inter Milan after a similar incident during Euro 2021.

According to reports from Calciomercato, the operation is scheduled for Monday, December 9th. Following the procedure, Bove plans to visit Viola Park to bid farewell to his teammates, as confirmed by his colleague Dodo in a recent Twitch stream.

The 22-year-old now faces a challenging journey, both physically and psychologically. A crucial part of this process will involve discussions about terminating his contract with Roma, as he is technically still their player. Fiorentina had an obligation to buy clause in his loan deal, contingent on a certain number of appearances – a threshold that will not be met due to these unforeseen circumstances.

While Bove may be able to resume his football career at the highest level from the 2025/2026 season, it is certain that he will never play in the Italian league again. This unfortunate turn of events, which thankfully did not end in tragedy, also means that Fiorentina will need to return to the transfer market in the upcoming winter window to fill the gap left by Bove’s departure.
