Former Juventus, Milan and Roma striker Marco Borriello believes Antonio Conte wants to return to the Bianconeri. The journeyman forward played under Conte during the his first title-winning season in Turin, and speaking with BoboTV, Borriello recounted his time with the coach, revealing some stories of their time together:
“I had Gasperini, Conte and Zeman. No one made me run like them. With Zeman I trained at Roma. I played five years at Roma, it was an absurd preparation, you didn’t sleep because you were tired. The year before I was at Juve and I won the Scudetto, how many insults I took…. I used to get together with Totti. I used to put myself with him and when I passed under the curva with him, no one would insult me.”
“With Zeman it was intense training, with Conte, instead, I vomited. With Conte I threw up! When one lowered his heart rate for a moment the call came, you had to raise the intensity. Then I remember: Maldini would get to 200 beats per minute in no time at all. It used to take me a while. I used to get to 184 in Milan, with Conte I got to 196. That was before the heart attack… I swear to you, it was 99% of the effort. But in the end Sunday rewarded you.
“I remember Quagliarella’s swearing in Neapolitan… You’d get to Tuesday, when training was over, you’d see balls going off in anger! But then you felt good and you showed it, in fact we won the Scudetto. After two years you couldn’t stand it any more, so Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Then you prepare the match: he’s a monster there too. Always high intensity, he’s a master at correcting games, with a laser. He corrects you, improves you and improves the team. A master.”
“With a laser he would put in and correct players. Like: Lichtsteiner, why aren’t you five metres further forward? Vidal, why don’t you cover here? Borriello why don’t you get there? And you’d eventually improve, improve, improve. The team moved like an accordion. Can he return to Juve? Yes he can, he would like to, he’s Juventus in his soul. In my opinion he can come back. Even if Allegri is doing very well.”
