Leonardo Bonucci is reportedly close to leaving Bundeslia side Union Berlin less than six months after joining them. The veteran centre-back was told he was surplus to requirements at Juventus this summer, prompting a termination of contract and the threat of potential legal action from the centre-back against his former club.
Multiple Italian newspapers and media outlets claim that Bonucci is giving serious thought to terminating his contract with Union, having featured just seven times since the start of the season.
Reports also suggest that Serie A side Roma are in contact with Bonucci’s representatives and could make a bid to sign him in the January transfer window.
The Giallorossi find themselves without Chris Smalling, while Evan Ndicka is set to feature for Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations in the coming weeks.
A lack of defensive options could prompt Roma to make a short-term investment in Bonucci, despite reports that their supporters are against the move, because of his Juventus background.
