Bennacer sidelined for 3-4 Months with severe calf Injury

Start

AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious calf injury while on international duty with Algeria. The club has confirmed that medical examinations revealed a “severe lesion of the medial gastrocnemius muscle in the right calf.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport report how the 26-year-old Algerian international is expected to be out of action for at least three to four months, potentially ruling him out until January 2025. This timeline could be extended depending on the treatment approach decided by the medical staff.

Milan’s official statement indicated that Bennacer will undergo a specialist re-evaluation in a week to determine the best course of treatment for full functional recovery. This assessment will help decide whether surgery is necessary or if conservative therapy will suffice.

This injury setback is particularly frustrating for Bennacer, who had only recently returned from a lengthy absence due to knee surgery last season. The midfielder had been working hard to regain his form and secure a regular place in Paulo Fonseca’s squad.

The loss of Bennacer is a significant blow to Milan’s midfield options, as he was expected to play a key role in the team’s campaign across domestic and European competitions. The club will now have to rely on other midfield options to fill the void left by the Algerian’s absence.
