La Repubblica claim Bayern Munich are making another attempt to sign Antonio Conte, but he prefers a return to Serie A. The Italian coach is reportedly the top name on the German club’s list, with the Bavarians set to bid farewell to Thomas Tuchel a year earlier than expected, at the end of the season.
The former Tottenham manager – contacted a few months ago – remains a priority, but negotiations remain difficult. Conte, who has been without a coaching role for a year now after his stint at Spurs, is eager to return to coaching, but his real goal is Serie A.
In the coming weeks, Bayern will present a very significant offer to the Salento-born coach, who, despite his desire to return to coaching in Italy, will reflect on the proposal and his future.
La Repubblica write that post-Tuchel Bayern remains an enticing challenge, but the bench at Juventus – who are seemingly inclined towards Thiago Motta – and Milan, ‘stimulate Conte’s imagination’.
The German club is also working on alternatives: among the club’s considerations is another Italian, Roberto De Zerbi, who after significant seasons in England with Brighton is ready to lead a top club. Liverpool are also tracking him, bidding farewell to Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.
Sporting coach Rúben Amorim and Sebastian Hoeness (Stuttgart, despite just renewing with his club) are the other names on which Bayern Munich is working for the post-Tuchel era.
