In the aftermath of Inter’s commanding victory over Atalanta, Alessandro Bastoni took the opportunity to praise his coach and teammates after a 4-0 victory. Speaking with DAZN, the defender talked through their commanding win, and what the future bodes for this collective of players:
“As we’ve been saying for a long time, the final in Istanbul left us a lot. We missed a great opportunity, but we understood how beautiful it is to play those matches and how to get there. We are happy, we work well together, and we are pleased to achieve these goals. This journey has been going on for several years; we are growing and maturing even those of us who weren’t ready 4-5 years ago, but we must continue like this.”
Reflecting on the strengths of the Inter squad, Bastoni emphasized the significance of unity: “We know how important the strength of the group is. Last year, for a certain period, we were all in question because there were too many defeats. This is also a revenge for us all, for the coach, and the staff.”
Acknowledging the pivotal role of coach Simone Inzaghi, Bastoni highlighted how the coach’s influence has transformed their defensive strategies: “Certainly, Inzaghi has been very important for the movements of us defenders; initially, I wasn’t so mobile, but now with our qualities, we do what you see. Then everyone must be focused and mentally prepared; it’s not easy to see a player like Mkhitaryan willing to defend or Lautaro coming deep; it’s a team game, and we are happy.”
