Bastoni: “A truly Important night, but we must be more clinical”

Alessandro Bastoni reflected on an important 2-1 win for the Azzurri, saying the team needed to be more clinical. The Inter centre-back scored an important equaliser in the game, and speaking post-match, he shared his thoughts on the teams overall performance:

“It was a truly important night. We started in the worst possible way, but we were good at reacting immediately and getting the match back on the right track,” Bastoni said. “These things happen, and regaining control of the game was not easy, especially with 50,000 Albanian fans cheering them on.”

Bastoni acknowledged the need for improvement in their next match, stating, “We will have to be more clinical in the next game because Albania had opportunities to change the result. We know Spain’s strengths, but we will focus on their weaknesses to put them in difficulty.”

The Italian defender also addressed the challenge of facing speedy attackers, a common occurrence for his team. “We will face faster attackers than us, which often happens. The important thing is knowing how to deal with it, and I think we know how to handle it.”

Reflecting on the early goal conceded, Bastoni said, “The game plan was different, and with 50,000 fans, the early goal could have deflated us. I’m proud of the team’s reaction.”

Bastoni also praised his defensive partner, Calafiori, saying, “I often see two right-footed players playing together. Cala is a great player, and I get along very well with him.”

When asked about the advice received from Italian legends, Bastoni revealed, “The number 10s told us to take to the field with a clear mind and enjoy ourselves, just like they did.”
