Marco Baroni, the head coach of Lazio, recently shared insights into his coaching philosophy during an interview on the club’s official radio station. In a short time, Baroni has gained recognition for his impressive results with the team, even winning over critics with the quality of play displayed on the pitch.

Baroni emphasized the importance of aligning individual goals with team objectives. “The goal of a coach is to ensure that individual aspirations do not stray from the team’s goals. I strive to make each player shine within a team model; I never impose my model on them. I aim to enhance individuality in service of the team,” he stated.

He discussed his approach to communication and player management, highlighting key aspects such as body language, raising his voice only when absolutely necessary, and working closely with each player to find a balance between instinct and reason on the field. “I hated it when my coaches were inconsistent and mocked players. That’s why I seek an honest and loyal relationship with my players. Everyone needs to understand that they are on a path toward personal growth.”

Baroni acknowledged that while players may appear strong from an outsider’s perspective, they are still individuals who require protection and affection. “These are men who need support and care. It’s essential for both the person and the athlete performing at such a high level, where there is immense pressure. The family aspect is what welcomes you in both good times and challenging moments. We aim to create that warmth in the locker room, but ultimately, players need to return to their family bubble.”
