Lazio return to action after their recent league defeat, taking on Dynamo Kiev in their UEFA Europa League opener. The match will be played at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, with kickoff set for 9 PM. Marco Baroni previewed the game in a press conference.
Baroni began by discussing the new Europa League format: “It’s exciting and interesting. It’s a prestigious competition and we have all difficult matches ahead. The opponent is challenging and there will be difficulties on the field. We need important games like this to grow.”
The Lazio coach also addressed the goalkeeper situation between Provedel and Mandas: “The goalkeeper role is unique. Mandas is an important asset for the club. There will be an opportunity for him. Tomorrow, Provedel will almost certainly play.”
Baroni explained the status of Castellanos and Noslin: “Taty is crucial for us. He wants to be on the field, we talked this morning and he’s feeling better. However, he hasn’t trained for the last five days. He’s available, but we’ll see if we’ll bring him on during the game. I need to reflect on the central striker position. Noslin is doing well and had a good game in Florence, though he perhaps lacked a goal. He’s a young player who is developing, and these games help him. He can play all three offensive roles, and I know I’m not creating difficulties for him by moving him around the field.”
Baroni concluded by discussing Tchaouna and Dele-Bashiru: “Dele has important qualities. He’s a modern player with strength, stamina, and speed. He can play as a midfielder or behind the striker. The same goes for Tchaouna. He’s gradually finding his place in that role and has pace, dynamism, and a good shot.”
