Baroni: “Match decided by Incidents, situations that are contrary to the spirit of the game”

Lazio suffered a 2-1 defeat against Fiorentina, with Albert Gudmundsson scoring twice from the penalty spot for the visitors. Mario Gila’s first-half goal proved insufficient for the home side. After the match, Lazio manager Marco Baroni shared his thoughts with DAZN.

“It was a match decided only by incidents,” Baroni began. “We had more possession, more shots – these are situations contrary to the spirit of the game. I’m sorry because we need to modify the way we stay in the penalty area and defend.”

The Lazio coach expressed his frustration with the penalty decisions, stating, “Even in the first case, the situation is really borderline. Guendouzi withdraws his foot. We have excellent referees, but these are situations that put us and the players in difficulty. There’s no controversy here.”

Regarding his team’s goal-scoring opportunities, Baroni commented, “In some instances, we need greater determination, but we will find it. The team plays and creates chances. We need to attack the goal better. I’m not worried, but I’m bitter after this match.”

Baroni’s remarks highlight his disappointment with the outcome, particularly given Lazio’s dominance in possession and shots. He seems to suggest that the penalty decisions were harsh and potentially game-changing. Despite the loss, the manager appears confident in his team’s ability to create chances, emphasizing the need for improved finishing and determination in front of goal.
