Franco Baresi, the legendary AC Milan captain, has shared his thoughts on the current state of the club, including his views on Theo Hernandez as captain and Paulo Fonseca as coach.
Baresi expressed his approval of Theo Hernandez wearing the captain’s armband, stating, “I like Theo Hernandez as captain. He’s a great player with personality and quality. He’s been with us for six years and deserves to wear the armband.” When asked about the shared captaincy approach, Baresi noted that it’s the coach’s decision and should be respected, suggesting that Fonseca might be trying to motivate different players.
Regarding the upcoming crucial Champions League match against Club Brugge, Baresi emphasized the importance of Fonseca asserting himself: “Fonseca is our coach and he needs to show his personality and beliefs. The players are responding, and tomorrow is an important match. We need to get points after the first two defeats.”
Baresi also stressed the importance of consistency for Milan’s success: “We hope to find continuity. It’s important to deliver performance after performance: it helps build confidence and esteem, leading to better results. Achieving results helps everyone: the environment, players, and team. It transmits enthusiasm. If Milan remains united, they can do well.”
When asked about Fonseca’s rotation policy and the concept of untouchable players, Baresi replied, “It’s difficult to comment from the outside. When you’re at Milan, you must always be ready to play and give your best for the team. Then there are the coach’s choices, which must be respected.”
