Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella revealed he was inspired by Nerazzurri legend and current Sampdoria coach Dejan Stankovic, after scoring against his side. The 25-year-old was in typically sensational form against Samp, pulling the strings in what ended up a 3-0 rout.
Barella shared an embrace with Stankovic after the game and explained what the moment meant to him:
He didn’t say anything much, we hugged, but he knows very well what it means to me.
I can only wish him good luck for this new adventure, I hope the best for him and he hopes the best for us, that’s for sure.
He is the player I was inspired by the most, today it was definitely a special hug.
Playing well comes with the security we have found, which we lacked at the beginning of the year for several reasons. It’s nice to play with this quality, this desire and this attitude.
I will watch the goal at home with my family. All the goals were created with our play, apart from the one from the corner, when there is this enthusiasm it is easier to play so we have to continue like this.
Maybe there is more peace of mind even in front of the goal, my teammates are giving me this opportunity and I can only thank them and help them with their performances.”
