Barcelona set sights on Leao or Kvaratskhelia for summer transfer splash

Start

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona, currently flying high in the Champions League and dominating La Liga despite a recent setback against Real Sociedad, are already planning for the future with clear ideas and at least one big dream. This season’s 4-3-3 formation highlighted the need for a star winger to rotate with Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and Fermin Lopez, but financial constraints and La Liga’s financial fair play rules prevented another major signing after securing Dani Olmo.

However, the landscape is set to change next summer, thanks in part to a lucrative new contract with Nike that will boost Barcelona’s financial muscle. According to Catalan newspaper Sport (via Calciomercato), sporting director Deco and Flick consider it crucial to make a significant addition to the attacking flanks, potentially sacrificing Fermin Lopez in the process. The strategy involves continuing to promote players from La Masia while maintaining the core of the first team. One or two sales may be inevitable but will pave the way for a top offensive player.

Sport has identified two primary targets for the Blaugrana, both currently plying their trade in Serie A. The first is Rafael Leao, a long-standing object of desire for the Catalan club. Despite Leao’s relationship with AC Milan being characterized by ups and downs, the situation appears to have stabilized. While his €175 million release clause is prohibitive, Milan might be open to negotiations.

The second name on Barcelona’s wishlist is Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Napoli’s winger who has been struggling to secure a contract renewal for over a year. Both players fit a similar profile: skilled in one-on-one situations, right-footed players who excel when deployed on the left wing.
