Barcelona has emerged as a potential destination for Federico Chiesa, as the Catalan club searches for an attacking winger. The Italian international, currently out of favor at Juventus under new manager Thiago Motta, has been proposed to Barcelona by his representatives.
Calciomercato report that about ten days ago, Chiesa’s entourage approached Barcelona’s management, who have since been gathering information to assess the feasibility of the transfer. Chiesa is reportedly open to a move to Camp Nou, though at this stage, it remains only a possibility. Barcelona needs to finalize some player sales before pursuing a winger like Chiesa, who remains on their list of potential acquisitions.
Chiesa’s departure from Juventus seems inevitable. With his contract set to expire on June 30, 2025, and renewal prospects close to zero, the Turin club is keen to sell him this transfer window to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year. While Premier League clubs are also interested, Barcelona is reportedly Chiesa’s preferred destination.
Currently earning about €6 million net at Juventus, Chiesa would be looking for at least a three-year contract to ensure continuity if he moves to Barcelona. The transfer could potentially be completed for a fee close to €14 million.
Barcelona has already obtained all of Chiesa’s medical reports following his knee injury two years ago and is convinced of his perfect physical condition. His performances during Euro 2024 have further solidified the club’s confidence in his fitness.
Chiesa, who was already on Barcelona’s radar last summer, is attracted by the prospect of playing in Spain. Financial constraints prevented Barcelona from making an offer a year ago, but the situation has changed, and Chiesa is now seen as a market opportunity, especially if he pushes for the move.
Barcelona’s sporting directors have made it clear that a winger will arrive by the end of August. While Nico Williams was the top priority, salary cap issues made that deal impossible. Other options like Luis Diaz from Liverpool and Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich are being considered, though each presents its own challenges.
