Mario Balotelli has taken to social media to address speculation about his fitness and playing time at Genoa. The Italian striker, who remained on the bench for the full 90 minutes during Genoa’s recent Serie A match against Lecce, emphatically stated that he is in excellent physical condition.
In a message posted on his Instagram profile, Balotelli declared, “I want to make it clear that I’m in great physical shape and I don’t have any problems whatsoever, thank God. I’m getting ahead of any potential nonsense (sports-related) that might be said in the future, as has happened in the past in these situations. Kisses to everyone and Forza Genoa.”
This statement comes in the wake of Genoa’s coach Patrick Vieira’s post-match comments explaining Balotelli’s absence from the pitch. Vieira had said, “Mario is an important player, like Sabelli and Vogliacco, who didn’t play. We have others on the bench too. We play as a team, everyone is important. Today I made this choice, tomorrow I’ll make another. But the most important thing is the team and the club.”
