Atalanta’s young defender Giorgio Scalvini has undergone successful surgery following a severe shoulder injury sustained during the match against Barcelona. This development marks the end of the season for the promising 21-year-old, dealing a significant blow to Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad.
The injury occurred during a challenge with Barcelona’s Koundé, forcing Scalvini off the pitch and ultimately leading to today’s surgical intervention. The operation, which took place on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, was reported to be a complete success.
This setback is particularly frustrating for both the player and the team, as Scalvini had only recently returned from a lengthy layoff due to an ACL rupture suffered last June. His comeback in November had been a boost for Atalanta, but this new injury has prematurely ended his campaign.
