Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has made it clear that he is looking for a new striker during the January transfer window. Following injuries to Mateo Retegui and Gianluca Scamacca, Gasperini is pushing for the club to secure at least one attacking option to bolster their squad for the remainder of the season.
Calciomercato detail how the recent injury concerns have prompted Atalanta to revisit their options in the transfer market, with Lorenzo Lucca from Udinese emerging as a primary target. “We need to address our attacking options, especially with the current situation regarding our forwards,” Gasperini stated.
Scamacca’s return from a serious knee injury remains uncertain, as he continues his rehabilitation. The young striker suffered a torn ACL in August, and while he is expected to return soon, the timeline for his full recovery could extend beyond initial estimates. “Scamacca is an important player for our present and future, but we need to ensure we have adequate cover in the meantime,” Gasperini added.
Lucca, who has attracted interest from several clubs including Milan, Inter, and Juventus in the past, is currently a key figure in Udinese’s lineup. However, with no immediate moves from those clubs this January, Atalanta sees an opportunity to secure his services on loan. “We are exploring the possibility of bringing Lucca on board to enhance our attacking depth,” Gasperini confirmed.
Despite Lucca’s importance to Udinese, who rely on him heavily in their attacking setup, Atalanta’s interest could complicate matters. The negotiation process is expected to be challenging as Udinese aims to retain their key players during this critical period.
