Atalanta continued their impressive run in Serie A with a narrow 1-0 victory over Cagliari, extending their winning streak to 10 matches. The win, secured by Nicolò Zaniolo’s goal and Marco Carnesecchi’s heroic saves, temporarily puts Atalanta five points clear at the top of the table.
Despite the success, Atalanta’s manager Gian Piero Gasperini expressed mixed feelings about his team’s performance. “In the end, we lived up to what the victory represented. We were lucky and must thank Carnesecchi. After scoring, we showed maturity,” Gasperini said in his post-match interview.
However, the experienced coach remained cautious about Atalanta’s title prospects. “Not everyone in the squad is ready to achieve important objectives. Those who aren’t yet prepared need to be led by those who are. To go all the way, we need maturity from everyone,” he explained.
Gasperini highlighted the difference in performance between players, noting, “There are people who played against Real Madrid and still performed well today. In the final part of the first half, we allowed too much space, but in the end, we were better at managing key moments.”
The manager also addressed Zaniolo’s controversial goal celebration, stating, “It’s unacceptable that every time he scores, he inflames the opposing fans. This is already the second time it has happened. Cagliari was stunned, and his celebration reignited the entire stadium.”
