Atalanta and Atlanta United have reached an agreement for the transfer of Russian midfielder Aleksei Miranchuk, according to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio. However, the player is still considering whether to accept the move to Major League Soccer.
The Italian club and the MLS side have reportedly settled on a transfer fee, with earlier reports suggesting Atlanta United had submitted a bid in the region of $10 million for the 28-year-old attacking midfielder. This comes as Atlanta United seeks to reinforce their squad following the departure of star player Thiago Almada.
Miranchuk’s potential move to Atlanta United follows a productive 2023/24 season with Atalanta. After returning from a loan spell at Torino in the 2022/23 season, the Russian international impressed manager Gian Piero Gasperini enough to secure a place in the squad. Throughout the last campaign, Miranchuk made 42 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta, contributing 4 goals and 12 assists.
The transfer negotiations have progressed rapidly, with Atlanta United’s sporting director reportedly traveling to Italy for direct talks with Atalanta. Initially, Atalanta was seeking €15 million for Miranchuk, which was above Atlanta’s first proposal. The clubs seem to have found common ground, although the exact terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
Miranchuk’s contract with Atalanta is set to expire next summer, which may have influenced the Italian club’s decision to consider the transfer offer. For Atlanta United, acquiring a player of Miranchuk’s caliber from a top European league would be a significant coup as they look to rebuild their squad.
