Atalanta are pushing to sign Birmingham City midfielder Jordan James but need a discount on the asking price. La Dea have been tracking the young talent for some time, and even came close to signing him in last years transfer window.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the potential departure of either Ederson or Teun Koopmeiners in the upcoming summer doesn’t faze the club, as they have kept a close eye on James, and are revisintg the prospect of signing him.
The Welsh midfielder, whose contract expires in 2025, has been on Atalanta’s radar since the summer of 2023. Despite being pursued during the winter window, he remains a target for the next season. James, as a midfielder, has been showcasing remarkable development, evidenced by his impressive stats in the English Championship: 8 goals in 36 appearances for a struggling team.
Previously, Birmingham stood firm on their valuation of €10 million for their prized asset. However, with the club at risk of dropping to the English third tier, this figure is expected to decrease. Nevertheless, James’s inclusion in Wales’ playoff squad for the upcoming Euros qualifiers adds another layer of complexity. Born in 2004, James is among Europe’s most promising midfielders, drawing interest from clubs like Fiorentina. Still, Atalanta holds an advantage in terms of timing, with scouts closely monitoring his development.
Additionally, the name of Pawel Dawidowicz from Verona may resurface in the summer. Despite negotiations in January, he could be the first solution to bolster the squad ahead of the next season.
