Atalanta midfielder Martin De Roon to miss EUROs

Start

Atalanta midfielder Marten De Roon has announced that he will miss EURO 2024 this summer following an injury sustained in the Coppa Italia final against Juventus.

Despite Atalanta’s recent triumph as Europa League champions, De Roon’s season concluded on a somber note due to the knee injury he picked up in the match against Juventus. This injury also sidelined him for the 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

While the exact duration of De Roon’s recovery remains unclear, he has confirmed that he will not be fit in time for the European Championship.

In an emotional Instagram post, De Roon shared his turbulent week and the impact of his injury on his participation in the Euros.

“I can’t imagine I’ve had a week in my career, or in my life, with so many ups and downs. We lost the Coppa Italia, and I couldn’t play the final. Then, we won the Europa League. Amidst that euphoria, I spent a lot of time with the medical staff, but it turns out I can’t play in the Euros,” De Roon wrote.

“I will get over it, and I will support the squad and my friends as a fan. But for now, it’s a very tough day. Hup Holland, hup.”
