Premier League side Arsenal are in talks with Atalanta over a loan deal for Portuguese left-back Nuno Tavares. The 22-year-old only joined the Gunners last summer, but spent much of the 2021-22 season as backup to Kieran Tierney, making just a handful of appearances.
The Evening Standard is among a number of newspapers who are reporting that Arsenal want to trim their squad after spending heavily this summer.
They are in talks with Atalanta over a move for Nuno, who could struggle for playing time again this season now that Oleksandr Zinchenko has arrived at Emirates Stadium.
Atalanta have been made aware of the player’s situation and want to take him on loan for the 2022/23 season.
French side Marseille and La Liga club Real Sociedad have both also been interested in the youngster, but Atalanta are now viewed as the favourites to complete a deal.
For his part, Tavares is reportedly open to the move as he views it as a chance to play regularly next season.
