Atalanta coach Gasperini: “We lacked quality against Celtic”

Start

Atalanta’s Champions League match against Celtic ended in a frustrating home draw, despite the Italian team’s dominant performance. After the game, Atalanta’s coach Gian Piero Gasperini shared his thoughts with Sky Sport.

Reflecting on the match, Gasperini noted, “In Venice, we won comfortably because we scored early, which made things easier. Tonight, that wasn’t the case. As the game progressed, we ran out of energy. They defended very well. We lacked something in terms of quality.”

Gasperini continued by highlighting the unusual nature of the game: “It’s rare to see such dominance in a Champions League match like today. Especially from a team that usually competes for league titles and defends so much. The real issue now is that we haven’t scored against either Arsenal or today.”

He concluded by addressing the challenges facing his team: “This is a problem for both the Champions League and the league. We need everyone to be in top form. When players like De Ketelaere, Retegui, and Lookman are at their best, we make a leap in quality. Zaniolo and Samardzic still need to improve their condition; I don’t see Samardzic as a forward.”
