Atalanta accelerate pursuit of Frendrup

Start

Winter Serie A champions Atalanta are looking to strengthen their squad as they aim to maintain their position at the top of the table. With Napoli capable of matching their points and Inter Milan holding a game in hand, the Bergamo-based club is keen to reinforce their lineup to sustain their impressive run of form.

Calciomercato report that manager Gian Piero Gasperini has identified Morten Frendrup, the Danish midfielder from Genoa, as a prime target. Frendrup has shown excellent statistics since Genoa’s return to Serie A and appears ready to compete for higher stakes than just avoiding relegation, especially now that Vieira’s arrival as manager seems to have lifted the team’s performance.

Frendrup is seen as an ideal alternative to De Roon in Atalanta’s midfield. However, negotiations are not straightforward, as Genoa has made it clear to interested parties, including Milan, Fiorentina, and several English clubs, that they value the player at 20 million euros plus bonuses.

Atalanta are currently not meeting this valuation but is gradually increasing their offer. According to reports, they are approaching the 20 million mark with a bid of 15 million euros plus bonuses. An alternative strategy could involve including Ibrahim Sulemana, a midfielder formerly of Verona and Cagliari, in the deal. Sulemana has struggled to find playing time under Gasperini and could be viewed as a suitable replacement for Frendrup at Genoa, complementing the already present Thorsby in their squad.
