Arsenal have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, with this week potentially being decisive in closing the deal.
Sky Sport Italia report that despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayer Leverkusen, Mikel Arteta’s side has presented the most intriguing project and offer for both the player and Bologna. This has put the Gunners in pole position to secure Calafiori’s signature.
The 22-year-old Italian international has attracted attention from several top European clubs following his impressive performances for Bologna last season and at Euro 2024. Calafiori’s versatility, being able to play as both a center-back and left-back, makes him an attractive option for Arsenal as they look to strengthen their defensive options.
Arsenal have already had a €47 million bid rejected by Bologna, who are reportedly holding out for a fee closer to €50 million. However, the Gunners are expected to return with an improved offer in the coming days.
With Chelsea also showing strong interest, a potential bidding war could ensue. However, Arsenal’s ability to offer Champions League football may give them an edge in negotiations.
