Liverpool manager Arne Slot addressed the media in a press conference ahead of the team’s English League Cup match against Brighton, revisiting the situation of Federico Chiesa, who was acquired by the Reds in the summer but has only played 59 minutes so far this season.
When asked about the possibility of Chiesa returning to Italy, Slot responded, “I’ve never thought about it. I think the first thing to do is to get back in shape, then we’ll see where he’ll be. My recent words have been reported in Italy; what I meant to say is that he missed pre-season, and during pre-season he did low-intensity sessions because he had to train with three or four players in addition to the group.”
Slot elaborated on the challenges Chiesa faces: “Going from there to a high-intensity championship, to a high-intensity playing style, is difficult in general for any player, but especially if you’ve had a pre-season like this.”
The Liverpool manager further explained the situation: “We already knew this beforehand, so we knew we had to be very careful and adapt where possible to his individual needs, but it hasn’t been perfect yet, so we’re trying to find the right way to make him grow without overloading him. This has been difficult so far, but I have full confidence that it will happen.”
