Inter Milan striker Marko Arnautovic, recently shared his thoughts on his current situation at the club and his commitment to the team during an interview with Sportmediaset. Speaking from Austria, where he played a full 90 minutes in a Nations League match against Slovenia, Arnautovic addressed several topics, including his playing time, team objectives, and relationship with the fans.
On his role at Inter compared to the national team, Arnautovic said, “Here I come and play, at Inter I play less because there are great strikers. It’s difficult for me because I’ve always started throughout my career, but I understand the coach’s decisions. I do everything possible at Inter to help Lautaro, Thuram, Taremi, and Correa. We’re five strikers, we try to help each other. I want the best for Inter, which may not be the best for me right now, but Inter is everything, it’s my team, and I do everything to help my team.”
Regarding Inter’s objectives, he expressed confidence: “Scudetto and Champions League? I believe we can do well because we know how strong we are, even if other teams are not bad. If you look at the standings now, there are 5 teams at 25 points… Our goal is the Scudetto, but we want to go as far as possible in the Champions League. We’re Inter, we want a lot.”
Arnautovic also addressed his recent struggles, particularly the missed penalty against Young Boys: “I couldn’t explain that situation; it was a disaster for me because I missed. Of course, I wanted to score the 1-0. You don’t play much, then the coach gives you the opportunity, and you want to do well… Okay, it’s a penalty, but even though we won, it was still my fault. I criticize myself a lot, I never criticize others, I always look at myself first. It was 2-3 difficult days for me, then I had an infection and couldn’t see anything from my left eye, it was serious. Now I’m back, I’m fine, and I hope to play: I’ll do everything possible to help the team and move forward.”
On his relationship with the fans, Arnautovic responded to criticism: “The fans who grumble against me? Would I make the choice to return to Inter again? You look at those fans, but the real Inter fans love me. I’ve followed the team since I left. I always say I didn’t win the Treble, but I’m proud of that moment. There are fans who say I’m old and always injured, but that’s not true. It’s not that I want to go on the field and get hurt, it’s something that depends on my body. Throughout my career, I’ve always played from the start, now I play the last minutes, and it’s different for my body. But even if I play 2 minutes, I give everything. Would I take another penalty? Certainly, I would shoot, even though Calhanoglu is the penalty taker.”
