Arianna Mihajlovic, the wife of former Bologna manager Sinisa Mihajlovic, confirmed that Bologna continued to pay his salary, even after his untimely passing. The 53-year-old tragically lost his life in December 2022 after a battle with leukaemia, and speaking with Il Messaggero, his wife revealed that his former club continued to keep him on the payroll after his death:
“Bologna paid Sinisa’s salary even after his death. I will return to the stadium on Sunday and reconnect with football, from which I had distanced myself. Lazio fans are special; they loved Sinisa like those of Bologna, make no mistake. Two special environments,” affirmed Arianna Mihajlovic.
“His sacking? Sinisa didn’t expect it and was very upset. He would never have resigned; he wanted to continue because his fighting spirit was unique. Bologna chose a different path, but I can’t judge: they honored my husband’s salary until the end of the contract. An extraordinary gesture, which gave me reassurance in a moment of disarray.”
“Bologna never made us feel alone; it had entered our hearts even before the illness. Miroslav, one of my sons, dreams of becoming a coach like his father. Dusan, on the other hand, feels more like Sinisa: he’s learning Serbian and often visits his grandparents. Stankovic is a role model for them.”
