Arek Milik: ‘The goal gives me confidence’

Start

Arek Milik believes teammate Gleison Bremer rightly won the MOTM award in Juve’s 2-0 win in the Turin Derby. The Polish striker came on from the bench to score the second goal and secure an importance victory for the Bianconeri, taking them up to third place in the Serie A standings.

Speaking with Sky Sport Italia in the post-game, Milik explained the change in tactics when he plays alongside Moise Kean and Dusan Vlahovic, and why scoring is important for a strikers confidence:

Bremer MVP of the match, he also beat you to it….

“I think he deserved it because he played a very good match, on a very high level and I am happy for him because I know how much this win means to him especially. He played a serious game, he is a strong player. I’m very happy for him and I agree with you that he deserves the MVP of the match”.

For you 100 wins in Serie A. The feeling is that you are very good. How difficult it is to be in this condition despite not having that much continuity.

“For sure today was not difficult because I missed some training this week, some conditioning, but let’s say I came in well, I scored and after that goal I gained some confidence. For a striker it’s always important to score because confidence is important to continue doing well. However, I am very happy with the win, with the team’s performance, that’s the most important thing. Of these 100 victories I was very surprised because I didn’t even know, I don’t look at these statistics, but it’s true, it’s a lot.”

Your job is to help the team play better. Are you asked to do that?

“It depends on who I play with, If I play with Moise or Dusan the coach puts me a bit more at the back to help develop actions. If I play with Fede I’m more forward, more of a forward. I do what the coach asks me to do. I always try to do better, always well. Today in the second half there was more space to play, we managed to exploit all the spaces we could have scored even more goals, especially me. We players always have to be ready. I know it’s not easy for those on the bench to be ready. We have to help when everyone is not there. The striker must score, that’s the most important thing for every striker, because then he gets the right confidence and can also help the team do other things. I am also happiest when I score goals.”
