Aouar: ‘Mourinho played a major role in my Roma move’

Start

New Roma midfielder Houssem Aouar admits that coach Jose Mourinho was a big reason he chose to move to the Giallorossi. The Frenchman joined Roma on a free transfer this summer, and speaking with Il Corriere dello Sport, he discussed his first impressions of the club and the prospect of working with ‘The Special One’:

“Mourinho played a major role in my decision to come here: the opportunity to be coached by a phenomenon is something I couldn’t pass up on.”

“And even Tiago Pinto played his part because he showed he really wanted me. But let me be honest to the end: when you work for Roma it’s easier to convince someone to join you. Roma is the real difference-maker.”

“Why should I compete with Pellegrini? I’ve always thought that good players can and should play together. Lorenzo is one of these, it will be natural for us to play together.”

“If the coach needs me as playmaker, I can do it. I’ve been doing it for two years. In a two-man midfield there is always a player of physical ability and one of technical quality.”

“The AFCON? This is a delicate matter. I’m proud to represent Algeria. And I’m sure that Roma, who have a competitive squad, will be able to play without me for a few weeks.”
