Antonio Conte likely to make Serie A return

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte is heavily considering his immediate future in the Premier League.

Having left Inter in 2021, Conte is already wishing for a return to Italy to manage in Serie A again.

The 53-year-old has six months remaining on his current deal at Tottenham with the option to extend until 2024. He was linked with a return to Juventus prior to the World Cup.

According to Italian journalist Nicolò Schira, however, Conte is pondering his position in London:

“Reflecting on his future: the desire of the Italian coach is the return to Serie A. So he could leave Tottenham at the end of the season.”

Schira also noted that even if he is to lead Tottenham into qualifying for Champions League football next season, Conte would still not be convinced about remaining in England.

Regarding his club’s transfer activity and optimism for finishing in the top four at the end of the season, Conte stated this morning:

“If you are realistic I think that you are not stupid and you understand the work that we have to do something more if the dream is to become a reality.”

This comes less than a week after he lamented Premier League media activity when judged alongside Serie A’s system.

Conte views England’s reliance on the manager to speak to the press instead of sporting directors and other staff members as inferior when compared to media in Italy.

Following the death of friend and former teammate Gianluca Vialli, Conte took time to express his feelings openly to the press a few days ago:

“This season is a difficult season for me as a personal aspect. For sure this season is making me have an important reflection on my future.

“When you work and the work is at the top of your mind in your head and maybe, sure, maybe times

“To have my family in Italy is not good.”

With the combination of Conte’s frustration at the Premier League, his disdain for Tottenham, impending contract expiration and value of family, the potential return to Serie A next season should be a shock to nobody.
