Antonio Conte: “Italy will always be first”

Start

Ahead of this evening’s Champions League clash between Milan and Tottenham Hotspur, Antonio Conte has spoken to the press about his adoration for his home country and Serie A.

Over recent months rumours, as well as consistent quotes from Conte himself, have implied that the manager is desperately seeking a quick return to Italy.

The Italian coach’s family did not follow him to England due to an eagerness to not disrupt his daughter’s final school years. Conte has lived in a hotel in London since he took the helm at Tottenham. Success on the pitch has not transpired in the trademark rapidfire Conte fashion with the club battling to scratch into the Premier League top four.

Conte discussed Serie A and the differences between the two sets of football:

“England is not like Italy, the Premier League is not like Serie A, we have different cultures in these two leagues. In England it is much more difficult to be focused and stay focused for every game. In Italy it is easier.

“These are always wonderful emotions. I return home, Italy is my home and it is always great to be here. Plus to be back at San Siro after 21 months, with two marvellous seasons at Inter and what we all shared together, this does give me strong emotions.

“You never forget your first love and Italy will always be first.”

Milan vs Tottenham kicks off at 21:00 CET tonight.
