Allegri: ‘VAR must be objective’

Start

Juventus coach Max Allegri refused to hit out at the referee following their 1-1 draw against Genoa: “VAR has to be objective.” The Bianconeri were denied what looked to be a penalty on replays, but Allegri opted not to criticise referee Davide Massa, saying instead that he officiated the match very well:

“The thing we have to do better, after the 1-0, is to be meaner. After the 1-1 we had to have more serenity and tranquillity. The team played a good game. The boys did what they had to do, we extend the positive streak and prepare for Frosinone.”

What upset you most in the second half?

“We had the chance with Chiesa on the goalkeeper’s mistake. There you had to kill the game. It’s a question of growth, you have to understand that the opponent is in trouble and at that moment you had to kill it. I’m sorry, but in football you can’t win every game. A point in Genoa is good, now we think about Frosinone. We’ll prepare ourselves as best we can.

The first five minutes of the second half.

“There was a ball that tipped over and Kostic jumped. Ekubam did well, the team had a good reaction. We had to be more lucid and serene, we shoot little and nothing”.

The penalty episode?

“Massa refereed a good match. I never comment on referees. How can you standardise something that is subjective. In Atalanta-Juventus, a goal was cancelled out for Mandzukic because Lichtsteiner elbowed Gomez… It’s not easy, VAR has to be objective. It’s the reality of things.”

How much does Rabiot’s absence weigh?

“Players when they are absent, are absent. We played against a really strong Genoa especially at home but we knew that”.

The climate?

“We must not have alibis on incidents. There are the referees, there is the manager who will assess what was done as is always the case. We have to work on what we have to do better, and we are working. The team is growing. We are sorry and angry, the game was played at a good level

Cambiaso’s performance?

“He played a good game tonight, which is even more difficult given that he played against Genoa.

The team’s performance.

“It’s progress, the team is growing. Winning every game is not easy, we have to put this game aside. It’s a matter of increasing attention and nastiness in going to hurt the opponent.”
