Max Allegri believes his Juventus side were “very mature” as they defeated Lecce 1-0 at Allianz Stadium in Turin on Tuesday night. A lone goal from Arkadiusz Milik was enough for the hosts to secure all three points and bounce back from their 4-2 loss away to Sassuolo at the weekend.
The 56-year-old was speaking at his press conference post-match and talked about Milik’s display, whether his team are still recovering from the Sassuolo defeat and on midfielder Nicolo Fagioli:
“It’s not a question of convalescence, in fact the team was very mature this evening. We didn’t even give Lecce a shot on goal. On Saturday we lost a match in Sassuolo that was a nail-biter and we had to understand that we shouldn’t have lost the match.”
On whether Allegri left the field nervous: “No, it was over. With thirty seconds to go you mustn’t put the ball in the middle and we risked getting counter attacked.”
“In that final situation, sometimes too much enthusiasm leads us to do wrong things. We had to keep the ball at the flag. Once the game is over you must not take risks. These situations must be managed. It’s a team on the rise.”
On Fagioli’s performance: “Fagioli did very well and is growing physically.”
On whether Rabiot is suffering from a lack of pre-season preparation: “Absolutely yes. He’s growing and revving up his engine.”
On whether Allegri was satisfied with Milik’s performance: “Milik is a starter like Chiesa, Vlahovic, Kean and the kid Yildiz who is making his way.”
