Allegri: ‘It was important to be 12pts ahead of Napoli’

Juventus manager Max Allegri says it was important to beat Napoli and extend their lead to 12 points over the Partenopei. Federico Gatti scored the only goal of the game to put Juve back into first place, prompting more title talk, something Allegri addressed in his post-match interviews:

“Scudetto dream? Winning tonight was very important because we put Napoli at -12 behind us. We have to keep working step by step because we still make too many technical mistakes. In the first half the boys were good and in moments of difficulty the team becomes a granite block.”

“We can also say that we want to fight for the Scudetto,” he continued, “but we must not think about what will be. We have to think about today. The more points we score, the more chances we have to go to the Champions League and stay attached to the strongest team in the league. We must always keep the balance, train to win.”

“I have an extraordinary group, we have to work on it. Every now and then we have to slow down. Rabiot and McKennie did an extraordinary job, I think we could handle the ball with more lucidity. Cambiaso can also play halfback if needed.”

“Vlahovic had a really good game tonight, in which he dominated the opponent. Chiesa had a very good first half. They understood that they have to make themselves available to the team, because Milik and Kean are great changes.”

“Gatti? I am happy for the goal but in the defensive phase he still has to improve something.”

“Championships are usually won by the best defense. Only in the Covid year it was not like that. You don’t always have to defend near the area, but manage the ball well. We are working on this.”
