Juventus coach Max Allegri confirmed he will not be negotiating the termination of his contract: “I have two years left.” The Bianconeri ended the season in 7th place, qualifying for the UEFA Conference League having agreed to not appeal the 10-point penalty that was imposed on them earlier this month. Speaking in his post-match press conference, Allegri was asked about the season as a whole and also whether or not he intended to remain in charge for the new campaign:
The season is over, what are the directions for the transfer market?
“Before I begin to answer I would like to say a few words. It was a difficult season, where the boys showed attachment to the club and seriousness. After all that happened the team finished in third place, 72 points is not something anyone can take away from us.
“Having been achieved in these circumstances, the points are worth much more, some people don’t like it but it’s a fact. Semifinals in the Europa League, semifinals in the Coppa Italia, we could have done more, especially at the beginning of the year, but there are so many positives.
“Putting aside this season the club will indicate to me the corporate strategies, I put my professionalism and seriousness at my disposal, even making mistakes sometimes in the choices. From tomorrow it is up to the club , when they have given me the directions I will try to create another important season, this year we have risen to third place from fourth, on this there is nothing to add.”
Grade for the season?
“At school I had problems with grades, all I can say is that I am very happy and I thank everyone who works at Continassa, when you have an obligation to win in a season that in a football sense has taken your life I can only say thank you. We had a wonderful run-up that stopped in Seville, but when you have to win them all to get to the Champions League to make up the penalty points, you can’t even afford a draw. Having said that Juventus is in the Champions League, but there are teams that have done worse but they are ahead of us.”
Meeting with the club?
“Juventus is a company and with timeframes to meet, the base is already good, there is the basis to improve further. The club has to plan, and when I get directions from there we will start again. I will be available as I always have been, for the benefit of the club. I do not negotiate any termination, I have two years on my contract.”
