Alessandro Nesta: ‘Maldini needed a reset – When he came on he made the difference’

After Monza’s 1-1 draw in the Lombardy Derby against Como, head coach Alessandro Nesta shared his thoughts on the match and the performance of his players during a post-game press conference.

Nesta began by analyzing the game, stating, “I believe the match was divided into two halves: a complicated first half for us where we created little. The game changed in the second half when they pulled back a bit, and in the final minutes, anything could have happened. It’s a good point; we must not lose a derby. I thank my players for their efforts on the field. I’m proud of them, but I hope we can do even better because we deserve it.”

He highlighted the importance of every match for his team, emphasizing that “for us, every game is vital.” Nesta explained his decision to start Daniel Maldini on the bench, saying, “I felt that Maldini needed to reset, which is why I kept him out at the beginning. He came on in the second half and made a difference.”

Continuing his analysis, Nesta reflected on the first half: “In the first half, I sensed they had something more than us. However, as the game progressed, I told my players to stay focused. They did well, and Maldini was impressive when he entered.”

Looking ahead, Nesta noted the upcoming match against Bologna and mentioned plans to rotate players for their cup fixture. “From tomorrow, we will focus on Bologna. In the cup, I will rest some players. It will be an important match for recovering some players,” he said.
