Acerbi: ‘Juventus spent €200m while Inter went for free transfers’

Francesco Acerbi says Inter didn’t play their best game in their 1-1 draw against Genoa: “We knew that this is a tough pitch.” The veteran centre-back spoke with DAZN in the post-match and outlined why the Nerazzurri struggled against an ‘aggressive’ Genoa side who gave little away:

“We knew that this is a tough pitch. They are a team that knows how to play, they are very aggressive. We didn’t play our best game, we suffered a lot on set pieces. Overall the draw was more than fair.

“I would like to remember one thing: we changed a lot of players (in the summer transfer window). Thuram is a very good player, we didn’t think he was so strong. Carlos Augusto, Bisseck arrived, we changed the three goalkeepers…. We showed that with the group we can do great things. Brozovic, Handanovic, Dzeko, Lukaku, players who were also very strong in Europe, left. We took many players who were a bit of an unknown and who turned out to be strong, useful. Then the group did the rest. We have the will to do something important and we have shown it with facts. A draw on a difficult pitch can be expected. We always try to aim high because we have all the ability to win”.

“The title? As a group we have the strength to say that yes, we can win with everyone. I don’t read the newspapers much and I care very little, but I hear that almost everyone says that Inter is the strongest team. But let’s remember that we changed so much in the summer. If we look at the names of those who left… they are really strong. A lot of players arrived who turned out to be very strong, but if we put them on the scales I don’t know.

“We are doing very good things, but it seems that we have to win the championship. Juventus comes to mind, for example, who spent 200 million on Chiesa, Vlahovic and Bremer. We went for free transfers. Let’s be a bit balanced. We know who we are and what we want, we hope to do something important which is in our capabilities at the moment.”
