AC Milan’s January transfer plans: From Chukwuemeka to a “New Morata”

Start

AC Milan are looking to bolster their squad in the January transfer window after a challenging start to the season. Currently sitting sixth in Serie A with 11 points from seven matches, the Rossoneri are keen to strengthen key areas to support new manager Paulo Fonseca’s vision.

Calciomercato report that the club’s primary focus appears to be on the right-back position, with captain Davide Calabria’s future uncertain. With his contract expiring in June 2025 and renewal talks stalled, Milan is exploring alternatives. Tiago Santos from Lille has emerged as a top target, preferred over options like Matty Cash and Kieran Trippier.

In attack, Luka Jovic is likely to depart in January, not fitting Fonseca’s playing style. Milan is searching for a versatile forward with characteristics similar to Alvaro Morata – someone who can link play, operate between midfield and attack, and be effective both as a lone striker and in a supporting role.

Midfield reinforcements are also on the agenda. The club is considering a range of profiles, from young talents to experienced players. Names like Richard Rios (Palmeiras), Morten Frendrup (Genoa), Samuele Ricci (Torino), Johnny Cardoso (Real Betis), and Lucas Gourna-Douath (Salzburg) are all under consideration.

A particularly intriguing target is Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea. Milan’s technical director Geoffrey Moncada has long admired the player, and the club is planning to make a loan offer in January, capitalizing on Chukwuemeka’s desire for more playing time.
