Abraham’s nightmare cameo: Milan striker’s brief appearance ends in missed chance and Injury

Start

In a dramatic turn of events during AC Milan’s match against Udinese at San Siro, English striker Tammy Abraham experienced a rollercoaster five-minute appearance that encapsulated the cruelty of football.

Calciomercato detail how Abraham, who had been left out of the starting lineup following a penalty miss in the previous match against Fiorentina, was introduced as a substitute in the 73rd minute. Manager Paulo Fonseca brought him on to replace a tired Alvaro Morata, with Milan down to ten men since the 29th minute due to Tijjani Reijnder’s red card.

The former Roma striker had an immediate chance to redeem himself in the 75th minute. After a Pulisic shot was saved by Udinese goalkeeper Okoye, the rebound fell to Abraham just two yards out. However, he failed to convert the seemingly simple chance, stumbling and falling into the net himself instead of putting the ball there.

To compound his misfortune, Abraham landed awkwardly on his right shoulder during the fall. The Milan medical staff rushed to his aid, audibly popping his dislocated shoulder back into place – a procedure that caused the player visible pain, his cries clearly picked up by pitch-side microphones.

Unable to continue, Abraham was substituted off just five minutes after coming on, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek taking his place in the 78th minute. It was a cruel twist for the English forward, who had previously dealt with shoulder issues during his time at Roma, though that had affected his left shoulder.

Initial reports from San Siro provide some reassurance regarding Abraham’s condition. A preliminary diagnosis suggests a right shoulder trauma, with X-rays already performed ruling out any fractures. Nevertheless, this brief and unfortunate cameo will likely be a significant setback for Abraham as he seeks to establish himself at Milan.
